Gmail Can Now Hide Google Meet from Sidebar [1]
Google has rolled out a setting to hide Google Meet from the sidebar in Gmail.
Google previously announced the ability to start or join a Meet call from Gmail. Many users found that the Google Meet sidebar in Gmail interfered with their work. Now there’s an option to turn it off. The option is rolling out to G Suite users and will be available to all Gmail users within the next few weeks.
Here’s how to turn off Meet in the Gmail sidebar:
- Log in to Gmail using your browser
- Click on the gear icon in the upper right
- Choose Settings
- Click on Chat and Meet
- Choose “Hide the Meet section in the main menu”
If the setting hasn’t appeared in your Gmail account yet, turning off Chat will hide Meet. It also turns off chat, which may not be an option if you use Chat. Turn off Chat by clicking the gear icon in the upper right, choosing Settings, clicking Chat, and click the button next to “Chat off”.
