An End-of-year Thank-you from Gizmo [1]
Another year draws to an end marking yet another year of tumultuous change in the world of computers. These changes are there for all to see. The Microsoft world is in limbo awaiting Windows 10 after the widespread market rejection of Windows 8 while Apple and Google have climbed to new heights capitalizing brilliantly on the worldwide move to mobile devices.
With the rise of mobile and social media we see a new audience for software emerging and now dominating the marketplace. An audience who expect apps to be available for free in abundance. Not only free but also disposable; to be acquired and abandoned at will as needs change and fashions dictate.
While there are many who lament these changes they are a reality and Gizmo's Freeware has had to adapt to that reality. We are here to meet the needs of our users and as these needs change so must we.
In the new year we will be slowly changing the focus of Gizmo's Freeware to better meet these changing needs. No, we won't be abandoning our traditional Windows desktop users who remain at the core of our mission but they will need to share the stage more equally with mobile apps.
This represents a big challenge but Gizmo’s Freeware has always been a strong community site so with your assistance and patience I’m sure we can meet these challenges and make the site better than ever.
As the year draws to an end I’d like to thank all our regular users for their loyalty and contribution through their thousands of posts and comments. I’d particularly like to thank our volunteer editors and tireless moderators without whose efforts, this site could not exist.
To all of you scattered across the world in 153 different countries, I wish a healthy, peaceful and prosperous New Year.
Gizmo
