Meet the World’s First Fully Interactive Virtual Art Museum
The first immersive virtual online museum of art (VOMA) has exhibitions and content that you can access now on any device for free in your browser.
Virtual Online Museum of Art (VOMA), the world’s first entirely virtual art museum is now open for visitors. VOMA presents works from some of the world’s most prestigious institutions, including the Musée d’Orsay, Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Art Institute of Chicago and digital-only originals.
High resolution images were provided by each institution and VOMA made 3-D reproductions of each piece using custom software developed with input from architects, designers and gaming experts.
VOMA has been in development for some time. Founder Stuart Semple and the VOMA team met and decided that although VOMA isn’t 100% finished, it’s good enough to share. Please keep in mind VOMA is a work in progress. Features will be added and things will be fixed as things progress. In the meantime, the museum is open for all to enjoy.
VOMA is a graphics intensive site. If you have a slow internet connection it can take time for the site to load after you’ve clicked or tapped a button or circle. Considering the level of detail, VOMA has done an excellent job of making the site work on slower connections without getting too bogged down.
The arrow keys on the keyboard are useful for navigation. Depending on where you are, you can get a 360 view or move closer to one of the pieces of art on display. You can right click on the red VO logo that appears for additional options. Worth a visit if you enjoy art and virtual environments.
