If you’ve gotten ebooks from Project Gutenberg or the Internet Archive you may have noticed that formatting and design can be inconsistent. This project is republishing public domain ebooks to work well with current ebook readers and standards.

Standard Ebooks is a volunteer-driven project that’s modernizing public domain ebooks to produce a collection of high quality, carefully formatted, accessible, open source, and free public domain ebooks that meet or exceed the quality of commercially produced ebooks.

What you’ll see with Standard Ebooks is a focus on modern & consistent typography, detailed metadata, quality covers, attention to section breaks, indentation, chapter headings, table of contents, chapter breaks, popup footnotes and great covers.
There are tables of contents and chapter breaks your ereader can understand, detailed and consistent metadata, popup footnotes, and consistency, so all of the ebooks look familiar.

Browse the entire Standard Ebooks catalog, each book lists a word count, approximat read time and a reading ease rating. All ebooks can be read online and/or downloaded in the following formats:
• Compatible epub — All devices and apps except Kindles and Kobos.
• azw3 — Kindle devices and apps. Also download the Kindle cover thumbnail to see the cover in your Kindle’s library.
• kepub — Kobo devices and apps.
• Advanced epub — An advanced format that uses the latest technology not yet fully supported by most ereaders.
