Thank you Joe for the information and links... quite helpful .

I do not want to turn off the toast notifications, but following your instructions, I did find the option to turn the Windows 10 Technical Preview notification off... so now it's done. This also confirms that the notification was for Windows 10 Technical Preview. As Jojo says, it's quite misleading to say that Windows 10 is ready. Also, showing such a message is further confusing in the sense that what will this achieve? Will it install the technical preview on the user's system? If yes, then that's dangerous. Really don't know what MS are thinking about it.

And yes, I do have that particular update installed, but it was installed on 28th March, and I am only seeing the notification since a few days.

Also, Windows Update is behaving really strange these days. When I had taken the screenshot posted above, that time 2 important updates were showing, one of them being flash player update. When I checked again, the flash player update was gone... and magically appeared again today, after two days. Same has happened with a few other updates.. important or optional.

Anyways, glad this is solved now... but yes, really misleading.

Nice to know the mystery is solved for you now Anupam. Still, why didn't I get that update?

Microsoft reveals that Windows 10 builds will stop booting shortly after they expire

Quote:
A Microsoft support engineer recently posted the expiration dates of the current Windows 10 Technical Preview builds, which also revealed that eventually, Windows 10 will stop booting. The process starts with warnings of the imminent expiration. After the expiration date has passed, Windows will spontaneously restart every few hours. 15 days after the expiration date has passed, and assuming you survived that long without having been driven mad by the restarts, Windows will stop booting, effectively rendering your PC OS-less.
Keep in mind that this info is related to the Technical Preview, we donít know whether the same will apply to the final build of Windows 10 but it is likely that it will. The latest Windows Technical Preview (build 10061) expires on the 2nd of October 2015, and users will have approximately two weeks to upgrade before it stops booting.

Gladly I don't use the One-Click clean utilities that came right from Hell.

just to move the thread, a little:

it's supposed to require the use of VTx technology, from Intel, or the equivalent from Amd. ..
- so - can win_10 be boot / installed if a PC does *not* have that available ??.

it's supposed to be compatible with a win_8 PC, maybe even with a win_7 PC, probably even a win_6 PC,
But - what about that Virtual Technology requirement ??.

- have you got it working on an older PC, - that you have available?.
what success / failure have you had.

Build 2015: Microsoft has released preview Build 10074 of Windows 10 at its Build developer event in San Francisco.

and

"It is only a week since the previous preview build (10061) arrived, but this one is a milestone available even to users who prefer to stick with the more stable releases – the “slow” update cycle in Windows Insider terms.
- This also means you can get an ISO image for a clean install.".

This popular game Candy Crush Saga will be automatically installed for customers that upgrade to or download Windows 10 during the launch according to the announcement here.

Currently this game is only available in Windows Phone 8 and 8.1 but not yet available in Windows 8 and 8.1.

In Android, this game is one of the 18 games that have been downloaded more than 100 million times.

On my Win 7 PC this morning I got a link from Microsoft to reserve my free copy of Win 10 which will be downloaded when available. They say I can then install whenever I want.
