Default New Project "CloneApp" on the Run

Hello guys,

Belim here from the DDownloads.net | Mirinsoft.com Team.

Im currently working on an new Project - Codename "CloneApp" (Appname still not official) - It's an small Freeware Utility for backing up - keeping Application Settings . The Idea behind is a bit different from the "classic" Backup tool. The Main purpose is ONLY to backup all the Configurations files leaved in Windows Programm directories and the Registry.

The Project is in a very early development stage.
Before it goes to the public i want to catch some Opinions (how do like the idea behind, first Impressions, GUI, What has been missed or is bad etc.)... and where can i get better Evaluations as in some big and great it-communities. A friend recommended me also gizmos freeware forum, so i hope im welcome

I hope my contribution here will be accepted and i would appreciate all kind of Feedback.

I will try to find the time to try it out but I have some questions.
  • That's a good idea to leverage the knowledge you have from Xleaner. Will you be updating Xleaner?
  • If you're going to backup the configuration files then why not provide the ability to backup the entire application?
  • I could see it being a problem knowing which version of the application the backed-up configuration files are compatible with. If you backup the entire application then that problem is avoided. Do you have any checks to ensure that the configuration files being restored are compatible with the version of software that is installed?

Thanks you for your Feedback

1.) I'm not sure about Xleaner. There are so many competitors in this category e.g. CCleaner, Wise Disk Cleaner. The Project is not dead yet but lacking in Basic Motivation
2. ) The App works with an Plug-in Engine. You can make your own Scripts and of course Clone the entire Application folder. But the main Purpose was/is to backup configuration files.
3.) It is a good Point, but i don't think that this should cause any problems. For example, we backup the configuration files of CCleaner Version 5.01. These are stored in the Registry or optional in an .INI file. A month later Piriform releases an Update to v5.02 and you redo your Settings of v5.01 backed up with CloneApp.
Should be in the new Version a new function available, you'll maybe have to set this function, which has not been backed up. The Configuration files are in the most cases compatible to each other. Major changes from e.g. v2. > v3 could be the exception. Therefore single Plug-ins will be available.

...and what you can always do is either to stick with the older version you like.
