Default Sandboxie 4.0

Sandboxie 4 has arrived, and version 4.02 is now available for download on Sandboxie website.

This is a very important version as per the changelog. Sandboxie will now run both on 32-bit and 64-bit Windows, and there is no need of Experimental Protection that was earlier for 64-bit Windows.

Windows 2000 support has been removed. To run on Windows XP, SP3 is required.

Improved compatibility with several other programs.

Full changelog here:

I said to myself "64-bit support - great", although I wasn't experiencing any issues with the 64-bit Experimental Protection in the previous version. So I just upgraded to 4.02 and now it breaks certain functions in SoftMaker FreeOffice 2012. I haven't tested all that is broken, but so far certain text and paragraph formatting has been affected.

Therefore, my advice to anyone using this combination is to hold off on upgrading unless you want to participate in giving feedback to the developer.

Just FYI, I've also registered on SBXIE's forum and reported the matter. When I get some definite feedback, I'll report here again.

Hi Joe, I saw your post in the SBIE forum. To check if a setting in the sandbox that you are using now is causing the problems that you are experiencing, create a new sandbox, right click the application that you are having a problem with and choose to run it in the new sandbox

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Bo, I just tried your suggestion and it's the same in the new sandbox . I even went so far as to go through the settings in my sandbox to make sure nothing has changed. Everything used to work fine in the same sandbox before I upgraded to 4.02, so it definitely broke some things. I'll give it a few days and see what replies I get. I suppose if it comes to down to it I could always roll-back to the previous version, although it's nice to think the newest version supports 64-bit systems without any sort of "experimental" approach.

Joe, I forgot to mention to keep settings on default. If you changed any setting in the new sandbox, try running SoftMaker again but this time without changing anything.

I had similar errors to what you reported using Libre Office while testing a beta. Tzuk fixed it after I reported it. So, don't move. You did good reporting the issue. In my opinion, downgrading is not a good solution if you want to keep using Sandboxie in the future. This version is the future. If I was you, I would be patient and wait a little and see what happens. If you cant be patient, you can run 3.76 over 4.02 or switch Office programs. Libre is working great sandboxed in W7.

In my W7, I don't have any issues but I know when I upgrade my XP in a little while, there is going to be one. Despite this problem that has to do with Excel and Word, I will be upgrading SBIE in the XP. I have a workaround for it and the problem probably will be fixed in the future but I know its going to take a while before that's the case.

I figured you meant to leave the new sandbox at the default settings Bo, so I did , but it's still no-go. I am patient, so I'll wait to hear what replies I get. Downgrading is just a last resort really.

Nice upgrade, hopefully EMET 4.0 RTM won't break compatibility again. I like to put suspicious things in there, instead of VM with different configuration.
