I take it that as long as shields up shows that the ports are all closed (regardless of stealth status); I'm good to assume there's little to worry about?

HTTPS is overall a safer way of surfing the net but personally I don't see much added benefit in using https when you're only doing search terms on google and bing. Just choose whichever you like more
