A 24 inch tablet? Where can I buy that?

FreeBSD on a tablet? Never seen that, sorry.

HDMI, I was wondering how much you read to be so dismissive.

Plus, I doubt Windows 8 Pro or ARM Linux (like Ubuntu on Android) is less usable outside of personal preference (which I've already addressed as capability v.s. efficiency).

Windows 8 is not usable as a workstation system, not even on a mobile. I can't say much about *buntu though.

Cthulhux, Have you seriously used it?

Cthulhux 22. Aug 2013 08:54 PM

Yup, I even earned money with it once.

So why don't you like it? What did you think of Windows 7 which is not much different to use?

Windows 7 has a desktop which never ever displays some giant tiles. Windows 8 even shows a giant tile when I want to configure a second display from the classic desktop, WTF?

I was hoping for something more substantial than what appears to be a quibble. Give me some critical thought on this issue.

Anyway, it doesn't do that for me when I configure a second display which is how I usually work with Windows 8.

Hm, maybe I have just done something wrong then.

So, if I already use Win7 for my real work (without a touchscreen), where's the advantage of Win8 except for the slightly faster startup?

Remah 22. Aug 2013 10:02 PM

No nothing wrong. Sorry if you feel like I'm poking you with a stick. :-)

I'm interested in why Windows 8 would be considered unusuable when Windows 7 is usable. I don't think that there is very much difference between 7 and 8, at least I haven't found it has affected the way I work with Windows apart from making me work faster. But that's because I now use a wider range of shortcut keys, 95% of which were in Windows 7. I'd never bothered to learn them before Windows 8.

Benefits I've found include slightly faster performance (including startup) on my 5 year-old laptop, better integration with the things I use (cloud storage, latest versions of applications like Office), and, under the hood, better security.

Finally, the ability to take all of Windows 8 to a touch-screen tablet has convinced me to stick with Windows as my main OS when a year ago I was considering a move away from it.
