Default iOS 5 launched

iOS 5 has been launched and available for free download and update.

It claims to have over 200 new software features for your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Will try it out.

After updating iTunes to 10.5 and connecting the iPad2 to PC, I received a prompt to update the OS to iOS 5. Am downloading now, 5 hours remaining...

Updated to iOS 5, which is about 700 over MB.

Noticeably the iPod App is now replaced with the Music App, and its lyrics does not show up when playing a song in this new app.

Either it is a bug or this feature has been taken out? Also reported in Apple Support Communities.

Exploring other features...

Default Syncing via Wi-Fi

In the iOS 4, I used to sync the iPad with the PC-based iTunes via a cable. Now in the iOS 5, it supports syncing the iPad with the PC via Wi-Fi without needing a cable.

Tested and worked well.

iOS 5 allows you to split, merge, dock and undock the onscreen keyboard. Good to type with both tumbs ("thumb-type") while holding the iPad with both hands.

Look interesting with this new idea and innovation (from Steve Jobs? Gone too soon...)

When you turn off Auto-Correction, the iOS 4 will also turns off Check Spelling. This has been improved in the iOS 5. You can have Check Spelling on while Auto-Correction is off.

The iOS 5 also adds a keyboard shortcut feature. You can set a shortcut for use system-wide to speed up typing.

This and that are now added to the article below.
