Default help with VLC

I've been using this program with no problems on the computers, but for some reason whenever I attempt to download it to my smartphone (Galaxy X10e through ATT) - from Gizmo's then clicking on the VLC website - the phone immediately leaves their website shows a couple of ads then says I have to sign into google to access their store; I don't want to download except from the legitimate website!
Can anyone help me get this program?
I was able to place FireFox as well as CCleaner directly onto this 'phone, so I don't understand what's wrong.

You have to understand that things on a smartphone work differently.

If you have an Android phone, then the official way of installing apps is from the Google Playstore, and that is recommended, because all companies make their apps available there. It is the official and safe way to install apps on an Android smartphone.

So, please, do not directly install apps on the phone. Instead, install them from the Google Playstore. Google Playstore is absolutely legitimate.

Anupam is Correct: you SHOULD Only get your APPS from a legitimate APP Store. And you MUST be Logged into your Google Account in order to download anything from the Google Play Store ... including VLC Mobile for Android.

Here is the link from Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...g.videolan.vlc

However: Google Play is NOT the only decent APP Store for Android / Kindle Fire devices ... there is F-Droid https://f-droid.org/ which is Open Source and has a Lovely Collection of FOSS (And More) APPS to be installed.

F-Droid HAS a few very nice APPS that Google Play DOES NOT. For Instance ... Google Play doesn't have "PySolFC" anywhere in it's APP Store - Here it IS at F-Droid: https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.lufebe16.pysolfc (1069 Solitaire games in ONE APP!!!) What is PySolFC: https://pysolfc.sourceforge.io/

Once you have the F-Droid Client APP installed: it Manages Downloads and Updates for all of the APPs you install with it - lets you KNOW when there is an Update!!! You can even Browse through the F-Droid catalog and find OTHER Great Games and useful APPS not found on the Google Playstore.

VLC on F-Droid: https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.videolan.vlc/

I believe F-Droid is a VERY Good APP Store - between them, and the Google Play Store, you have a complete set of choices!!!

Thank you so much for this information.

Curiously wondering if I should delete the Firefox & CCleaner & reinstall via this App.?

Gizmo's has been & continues to be the best spot on-line; please continue -
you're always a step ahead of me, (one of those few still remaining who grew up before typewriters became the window to the world) ;-)

Cool F-Droid is very exclusive ...

The F-Droid repository doesn't have either CCleaner or Firefox - you'd have to get those through the Playstore ... IF they are available.

Where had you installed the apps from?

Yea, the correct way is to install the apps via the Playstore. That way, you also get notification if the apps get updates, or, you can also set them to update automatically.

As Anupam mentioned you should download apps only from Google Play Store.
Apart from Google Play, as SeaMac mentioned there are some great apps that you get only from F-Droid.
  • NewPipe (ad-free Youtube, with background playback and download feature) - I use PureTuber these days though
  • Blokada - (block ads across apps & browsers in Android)

These apps are safe to download from homepages as well. But to get auto-updates you need to download them from F-droid.

Pure Tuber looks good.

Yes, it's better than NewPipe, since you can post login and post comments as well. It's better than Youtube Vanced because you don't need to use MicroG to login.

The Google Play version of PureTuber doesn't let you download videos though. So I go with the website download, which auto-updates too.

Try to download the VLC app from it's official site if you are having an issue in downloading this app via Gizmo.
