Default Finding E-Reader App HELP!!!!

Hi all,

I'm sure one of you knows the exact answer to my problem!

So here goes:

I have recently got an android tablet and need an e-reader for it. Wait before you roll your eyes and say 'just download one' here is the problem!

I have over 1500 books and download new books frequently so I have put them on an external SD card to a. make it easier to load new books b. save space on the main memory of the device.

I need an e-reader app that will read FROM THE EXTERNAL SD CARD without feeling the uncontrollable urge to attempt move all the books to a folder on the main memory.

I have tried google reader (doesn't like other books) aldiko and FB reader.

If there is a simple solution like renaming the folder on the external SD card or something ... HELP!!!! please!!

Did you look at this review:

http://www.techsupportalert.com/cont...er-android.htm

You will find more suggestions to try there.

But, I am afraid you will have to try them out yourself to see if they are able to do what you want.

I had tried Moon+ Reader on my phone earlier, and it had picked up ebooks and pdf files from my external card, although I remember going to that directory from within Moon+ Reader. Not sure if it will do what you want. But, give it a try, maybe it will. It's quite a good reader too.

That is the problem! I DID TRY THEM OUT! But they move the books which is WHY I am asking for help!

I wish people would READ what is said! In full, with comprehension.

Sorry I'm really frustrated. I said quite clearly that I TRIED out 3 e-readers and I also looked at many more.

Look buddy, I know you are frustrated, but don't take out your frustration on people who are trying to help you.

I did read your post, and I fully comprehend what you want. But, here's the thing, this is a particular requirement of yours, and therefore, you will have to try yourself and check, if that requirement of yours is fulfilled by a reader or not. We can just provide suggestions. I don't have any e-reader installed on my phone, otherwise I would have checked it out for you. So, you will have to do it yourself. Of course, if any other member of the forum who has come across your situation, and found an app, or a solution, will write about it.

Also, if you read your post, you just mentioned 3 readers that you tried. You did not say you had tried more. That's why I posted the link to the review where you could try more. Also, if you do not name the readers you have tried so far, how will anyone know what you have tried.

So, appreciate the help that you are getting, and don't take out your frustration on others unnecessarily.

I understand your frustration Avid2Read. There are tons of Android apps around us but there's no need to loose control.

I wish you had mentioned your Android version along with the eBook formats you have. ePUB? Mobi? Kindle? PDF? Are they encrypted?.

If your tablet is running on Honeycomb (3.0, 3.1 or 3.2) I'm afraid that Android version doesn't support the transferring of apps to SD Card nor putting any app data (in this case, eBooks) on the external memory because of its dynamic app & media storage which is designed to use the internal storage only (blame Google for that ). If that's your case you'll face the same problems over and over again no matter what eBook Reader you install. The only thing you could do is keeping the books you're not reading on the SD card and transfer the one you want to read to the internal SD.

However, if you are on Android 4.0 and up, you should have no problems reading eBooks from the external memory and any app from the review Anupam suggested should work.

IMO, if you have Android 4.0 and up installed and if PDFs are your only eBook format, Adobe Reader is your best option; but if your main formats are ePUBs, Mobi and the like then you should try Zo Reader. It supports epub, mobi, umd and txt file formats. Cool Reader is a great option too.

Question

Geez!

You guys made my day. I'm new to android and I just got a tablet too but I couldn't find out what the problem was with my failed file transfer attempts and I was thinking I got a defective unit. Lucky me I found this thread! It turns out it is Honeycomb's fault.

Is it possible to fix this someway, somehow?

BTW I have an Acer Iconia Tab A200. Is that info any good to you? Any help is much welcomed.

Thanks in advance

The only way to 'fix' Honeycomb's issues would be upgrading the tablet to a higher version of Android.

Luckily, looks like your model can be upgraded to Android Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.3). That should solve the problems you're facing with Honeycomb. To update your tab you must go to Settings > About tablet > System update > Check now. You can also check the official support page of your model for more info.

Thumbs up Thank you!

Thank you so much! Your directions did the trick. The only thing you missed was that I had to back up my accounts and stuff like that beforehand . Anyway my tab told me to do so. No worries .

I'm not experiencing any transfering problems now and I feel like my tab is much faster. I need to explore it because the new android turned my tab into a new one overnight but I'm really enjoying it! I can't believe I was THIS CLOSE to return it to the store.

ThanK YoU.
