Linus Torvalds has some choice words for Nvidia

A article discussing how Nvidia will not provide support for linux. I whole heartedly agree:mad:

I watched the hour long university Q&A interview here:

My favourite part was this quote towards the end:

"I like offending people because people who get offended should be offended". :D

"Nvidia has no obligations to support Linux if they feel it is not worth devoting the resources to."

Thats true but in my opinion its a stupid policy. Linux is only growing in popularity and its to their benefit to provide support. It will be interesting to see how many people jump on the linux bandwagon once Win 8 rears its ugly head:eek:

On that point your correct. Course language is inexcusable in a venue such as that. But then again I think he may have used that language as a exclamation point to highlight his displeasure. Lastly I don't think he will be judged by his lack of civil grammar.:D

NVIDIA PR Responds To Torvalds' Harsh Words:

WOW... It seems Linus has some clout to provoke a response like that. I've cursed out Nvidia many time while performing a new install and it never provoked a response from their PR rep :D
I concluded Nvidia isn't keen on the whole open source thing, But I also think they left the door open for additional linux support in the future.

Despite Nividia's lack of support, I still find it much better than ATI. I love how Linus is so open about his thoughts and feelings. I feel it will help the community apply itself better with pressuring Nividia.

Interesting. "Lack of support" needs to be qualified. Nvidia clearly provides "support" just not the type of "support" that Torvald wants.

Torvald wants Nvidia to devote more resources, including money, to Linux without any major benefit to Nvidia. I haven't seen the whole interview so does Torvald provide any compelling reason for Nvidia to change an effective strategy. Nvidia maintains parity with Windows which has market share a magnitude greater. So in my view, Linux gets a pretty good deal.
