I was reading an article by one of our editors concerning 3D software conversion. It got me thinking about my early attempts of using Blender as I recall it was difficult for me to understand but then I ran across Google's SketchUP. I found Sketchup much easier to deal with and it has plenty of tutorials and templates. The problem is, its Windows software. Would it run on linux? I downloaded the free version and found that not only did it install it also ran. When first starting a project the main screen is jumbled but if you left click on the middle of the project screen it straightens right up.
Heres the link where you can find the Sketchup download http://sketchup.google.com/intl/en/download/index.html Heres a screen shot of Sketchup from my linux desktop ![]() |

Yup, tried it and ran it with my models.
http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/google-sketchup.html Works quite well overall. Some small glitches. It's a decent substitute for the windows-only use. And then, rendering with Kerkythea - native to Linux. http://www.kerkythea.net/joomla/ Cheers, Dedoimedo

Actually my 13 year old son has the artistic talent and I want to encourage him so I'm trying out a couple jet planes to give to him as a primer. As I see it, there seems to be symmetry between the right and left. With that I'm thinking he can work in the details. |
