Wondered why it took you so long to post MC !

It is a nice distro., no doubt about that!
As they say, "built for the desktop".
Guess that excludes my laptop?
If there's one thing that keeps me away from distros like this one and others (Ubuntu, ElementaryOS), its the fact that you can't auto-hide the top panel.
If you have a 24" monitor no problem!

You can of course choose to have the panel at the bottom if you wish but no, it doesn't auto-hide.

I did have a quick look but my first operation, installing Chrome, failed with an input-output error so Solus is now removed to my "nice try but not ready yet" pile.

Yup, probably better off testing lasted LinuxMint 17.3 KDE and XFCE (the latter was un-announced on Distrowatch) betas.

Agreed. There are serious issues already being reported in the Solus forum so more work is needed to get this ready for general consumption.

Would just like to throw in if anyone likes the Budgie desktop, Manjaro Budgie is a much better bet than Solus at the moment.

https://manjaro.github.io/Manjaro-Bu...5.11-released/

Why?
  • It works
  • Has full range of software available

Fair and accurate review.

"At this point, the Solus Project has too many reasons for users to stay clear of trying it".

Couldn't agree more.
