Yup that sounds like the Philippines too.
I also remember that places like the Philippines, Singapore, or Hong Kong each had A very unique smell. For instance the Philippines (Olongapo) smelled like BBQ, there were BBQ stands everywhere and the venders would always say they were cooking pork... Funny there were no cats, dogs or monkeys in sight

Back to the topic of Cinnamon
Cinnamon 1.4 has arrived and has passed the Dedoimedo test. We may yet have salvation from the Unity And Gnome 3 madness. At least there maybe light at the end of the tunnel, hopefully its not an oncoming train.
