need to refigure my bios to read my cd rom when rebooted.
Can some one tell me how to do this? This is for another person who is working on getting Linux and he needs to change his bios so that it will boot fromm the cd first.

I think you are the person yourself who is trying to change the boot order. Anyways, you already know the answer to it. You will have to get into the BIOS. Usually you have to press F2, or the DEL key, when the boot screen appears to get into the BIOS. The boot screen also displays what key to press to get into BIOS.
Once you get into BIOS... look for the boot order, and change it to make the CD/DVD drive as first one on the order. Good luck |
No Iam not. i had no trouble at all. my cd booted right up. My problems came later. This is for a guy on a Christian Messageboard that I have been in contact with because we both wanted to try Linux. His won't boot up like mine did and he asked if I could help him go in and change the bios to reboot first on the disc.. I told him that I could not , but I would ask and see if I could find out how for him.

A person seeking help and is not attempting anything dishonest or against the rules. Should be free to ask. With that said Anupam is correct for the most part. However some computers (like mine) boot to the bios while tapping the f8 key. Try looking in the advanced option while in the bios from there look for the boot order as explained above. Thank you. But I don't have that problem because my computer boots up to the cdrom first and the hard drive second. So I never had this problem. i have an HP and when My computer comes on , it shows a lot of things. But this guy's computer is not rebooting from a cd rom first and he want s to know how to change it. I don't know what kind of computer he has. I did send him a link I found on line about the bios. , but so far haven't heard from him. I told him I would ask on the tech messageboard that I frequent (Here) and let him know how to do this.
I did not mean to be troublesome. it was certainly not my intention. |
Jillian, please accept my apologies. You are not in the least troublesome, and please feel free to ask ANY questions you want.
I can assure you that you won't be treated so rudely in future. |
You are not troublesome.
I was referring to your friends problem even though It seemed I was referring to you (my bad) Any way. Never hesitate to ask a question. This is exactly what this forum is for. To help people. I like to think this is the friendliest forum on web. Also you may try to use the mepislovers forum you will need to register. They have been great in helping me. I often go to the newbee thread :) and get a response within hours Cheers Wdhpr |
Jillian I was just kidding... don't take it too seriously please. I would be glad to help you, or any other person who requires help :).
wdhpr, I was just kidding about it... I am all ready to help. Jillian, you can ask the guy to join our forum here. It would be nice to have him here :). And he can directly post and read the answers here. But, its nice that you are helping him out. And no, you are not being troublesome, we are always there to help :). About the BIOS, different computers have different BIOS setups, and settings or placings of items in the BIOS differs from PC to PC... but the settings are more or less the same... so he has to just boot into the BIOS, and find out the setting from where he can change the boot order. Its quite simple. |
Thank you peter , wdhpr , and anupam. I do accept all apologies. And anupam , one cannot tell sometimes whether one is kidding or not. About the mepis forum , I have already joined and those people think I need to join a local group in my area so that I can get hands on help. They try to be very helpful , but I am totally lost and they can see that. I knew it was going to be this way. that is why I hesitated to do Linux. It is too difficult for me .
Also , I did give the guy this link to the messageboard and told him to come over and read , but to post , he would need to join. I don't know if he has been over here. Thank you wdhpr for all your support and help. |
