Is your processor 64 bit? I am runnings winxp the32 bit version. I also dual boot to mepis using the 64 bit distro. It works because I have an amd64. If your intel processor is 64 bit. You should be able to install the 64 bit Ubuntu distro.
Your link is for the distro's iso. Last edited by wdhpr; 13. May 2009 at 02:29 AM. |

http://www.techsupportalert.com/free...-know-how.html But according to this thread, you're downloading the Ubuntu .iso file? Putting that aside, partitioning your hard disk isn't very difficult and is quite safe as long as you have a backup image of it before doing anything (backup important files). It can be quite dangerous if not handled properly, make sure you computer doesn't power off or anything while partitioning or updating system infos. A word of advice, partition your hard disk while using Windows, else if you do it using a LiveCD, the next time you boot to Windows, it'll panic and run a scan to check why it has lost a chunk of it space. |

i have finally got it partially going. Every time I clicked on Firefox at the bottom , it would come up and say Firefox was already running. And had links to download Firefox. Anyway , I just did not like the looks of Linux. Boring colors. I will stick with Windows . More eye candy browser with IE and Firefox.

Actually, the look and layout of Linux is highly customisable, even to the point of making it look like Windows Vista!
However, before you go any further, it sounds like you would certainly benefit from doing a lot more research into Linux before attempting to install it on your current system. IMHO, the most important of all, is making sure you have a reliable backup image of your entire hard drive before attempting any sort of partitioning and multiple OS installation. Doesn't mean you can't have fun playing with the various live CD's in the meantime though. ![]() |

Hey , I had trouble with Mepis , but used the Live Disc with Ubuntu 9.04 and had no problems at all. I really liked it , except for the color. I love Blue. The only thing is when I got ready to close out , there was not a button to either Shutdown or Log off or Restart. I had to literally press my tower button and then the options came up. I really do not like that at all. there should be a button for this on start .

Also , I had to log in here using IE for some reason when I tried to log in using Firefox , it said that Access Denied. And I thought well , they have banned me for sure lol. I deleted all cookies and internet files , Firefox cache everything. Then came back and it told me Access Denied. I could see Jillian at the bottom of the page where it shows those that are here. So I then tried IE and it logged me right in . Something strange going on with my Firefox, but can't figure out what.
