Pleased you are enjoying the Peppermint experience

I certainly appreciate their philosophy:

"The notion that in order to use, enjoy and be proficient with Linux is that you will need uber-geek hacking skills is completely False. And, this is just the stigma surrounding Linux that needs to be erased once and for all with Peppermint".

I looked at this one too but decided the emphasis on cloud applications didn't suit my own needs so I never got as far a downloading it. On reflection, and having read your posts, maybe I should rethink this and have a proper look.

A closed mind is always an empty one

For a note, during installation of Peppermint, I experienced a small hiccup though. It installed 45% and failed further reading with a prompt saying that either the reading head or the CD needs cleaning.

I took out the CD and wiped it clean. Put it back to read but further installation of Peppermint was not successful, neither could I boot into XP or the half-installed Peppermint, likely the MBR was corrupted.

I used Puppy Linux LiveCD to boot into the system and ran GParted inside the LiveCD to reformat the Peppermint partition.

Started all over again to boot into Peppermint LiveCD and this round the installation of the system was successful with dual boot to XP and Peppermint.

It runs desktop apps too. It just uses a lot of the lighter weight alternatives to what comes preinstalled in Ubuntu. It will run wine just fine, and you can even easily install ms word using playonlinux.

Thanks Ritho - it's now on my list somewhere between spam management and how to hide your wife in a large hole

Boring story but just briefly we've been trying for two months to have a dangerous tree removed from near the house but although some guys turned up they didn't want to tackle it. Ultimately we found someone who erected a 15m tower to get part way up and then removed it a section at a time. The pieces are stacked where they were left because it's gonna cost another arm and a leg to have it all taken away. Despite being as big as a bus my wife managed to walk into it all yesterday which somehow turned out to be my fault

Downloaded Peppermint Ice this afternoon and really like it except that it won't play movies/videos from the live CD. I get sound OK albeit at a lowish volume but no video. I also downloaded MPlayer which opens OK but still only sound.

Any ideas

I tried Peppermint One with no issue but hadn't tried Peppermint Ice. Probably the dangerous tree couldn't grow on ice.

You know this is one of those cases where a pronoun, or changing word order, could keep you out of more trouble. i.e. "Despite it being as big as a bus......" I really don't think that your wife would like it if she found out that you are spreading around the internet that she is as big as a bus.

I was of course referring to the size of the pile, but good point!
