Default Feren OS

Been getting inquiries lately about Feren OS.

https://ferenos.weebly.com/developer-center.html

This is undoubtedly a well constructed project, more so because the developer is of GCSE age, but with this comes reasons to consider something else instead as highlighted by his statement about taking a break because of studies. Ultimately this is just a pimped version of Mint with a bit of Zorin thrown in. Anyone can achieve the same result using a Mint base with minimal effort, better support and greater stability.

This is Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon with the following customizations:

Desktop: Metallic Cyan
Icons: Mint-X-Aqua
Controls: Cinnamox Heather
Window border: Vision
Mouse pointer: Krakin

Screenshot also shows the excellent My Launcher applet which enables you to keep the panel clear of icons if you so wish. You can customize this applet to launch pretty much anything including files.

Also shown is GIS Weather + Grey background theme and a pimped version of Conky’s “Next Generation” theme with the G-BLUE analog clock over it.

I'm sort of going through a 'dark' phase at the moment.

Don't we all have a dark side?

De-light therein can be quite uplifting if we allow it to.

p.s. did you do that background?
Maybe i'll just Tineye it...

Nope. Got it from one of my fav theme resources - DeviantArt.

Did try Feren once and wasn't impressed much.

Registration is showing for me. Maybe you have security software or a browser extension blocking it.

Problem is there are too many Linux distros either trying to look like Windows or make the transition from Windows 'easy'. Two issues then collide here. Many folks leaving Windows don't want something else that looks like it although they can achieve this with most of them if they so wish. Also, anyone capable of working out how to use a smartphone or modern TV can easily move from Windows to Linux without any need for something that 'looks' like it or tries to act like it.
