Mx-16

Comprehensive review of the successor to MX-15.

actually, I've upgraded my MX-15 to MX-16,
- using the newly available 'upgrade assistant'.
worked well, too.

I finally took the plunge and installed MX-16 in a dual boot configuration with XP. The installer doesn't give the option to simply 'run alongside your current Windows installation' and I was struggling with GParted because I was trying to follow a video on youtube that didn't quite mirror the state of my HDD and then I remembered I had the excellent Mini Tool Partition software.

After much cursing, the installer would recognise a particular partition but not the one I wanted to install MX-16 on, I eventually succeeded! :D

Took MX-16 out for a spin again.
It just frustrates me that some Ubuntu based distros work nice with the Logitech headset i have while others don't. It's not a huge issue, but just frustrating. See, the headset has a nice dial incorporated in the wire for volume up or down. No matter how hard i try to configure Pulse Audio on MX-16 to make it work, it just won't even if this is a non-issue on other distros. Lack of updated drivers? Oh, that is a non-issue, sorry...

Again, tried to find a way as a workaround, to configure hotkey to make sound vol. + or -
Where is it? Tried for at least 20 minutes! Thought i saw it but where?

Other thing about external monitor...
Even if i swing and define one as default, i can't get the mouse arrow to follow the way i want it to, as it can be done in Windows.
Example, in MX-16 (but other distros too) my laptop is on my left and external on the right.
If i choose external as default and place the image on display settings to the right, the mouse arrow still has to go to the right in order to get to the laptop monitor which is on my left.
Sounds complicated?
Sure, can get used to moving the mouse arrow but it is not spontaneous.

Last... still find fonts on MX-16 to appear grainier than on other distros like Antergos or ChaletOS for example.

That's enough for tonight.

MX is not based on Ubuntu.
The Logitech headset is designed to work with Windows only but can be configured so to do with Linux. There are several threads detailing how to do this if you search using Google.
Fonts are pin sharp on my system without any additional tweaking.

Don't know why, but Firefox sure is much better here than on Windows and even other distros.

Just want to say the MX-16 has become my default Linux OS.

Their forum members have been so precious at helping me get things to work and there's so much to discover in this distro!

Thank you to MC in a special way for "insisting" on this Linux distro. ;)

Glad you stuck with it. :)

With the overwhelming amount of things to discover, it should keep me from distro-hopping for a while.

The black theme is nice.
Just wish there were a way to make the panel icons "equal" in size.

danielson 26. Feb 2017 04:11 PM

What i meant to say... when you "slide" the size of the icons, the default ones don't follow in proportion to your added ones after a certain amount (like over 32 i think).
