Default No Internet connection with live session

I recently decided to take another look at Linux, as it has been several years since I was last dual booting or running Ubuntu from within Windows, and things have moved on a lot.

I ran Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa Xfce from a DVD as a live session, but was unable to connect to my wi-fi network despite using the correct password when prompted.

My question to Linux boffins out there is this: will I be still be unable to connect to the Internet if I do a full install?

(I ask this question because I don't won't to find out down the line that I can't connect, for obvious reasons!)

Cheers,

Torres

Most probably not.

There's a reported fix to iron out the Broadcom wifi driver issue for that version of Linux Mint. Try it out if that works:

Thanks for the link Jojo: as with all things Linux it looks a tad daunting and worse, hit and miss. Perhaps I should just try another distro that works out of the box...ho-hum.

I gave up trying using a broadcom chipped WIFI and bought a USB dongle.
Worked first time in all OSs otb with supplied drivers. I did subsequently get better/newer drivers for it, but they only supplied more of the hardware supported options.

Thanks Burn-IT, I think I'll still try another distro as this will only cost me another DVD. ;-)

I meant that the broadcom chip gives ptoblems with ALL OSs I've tried ( except Windows). It didn't help that the same chip tries to provide both Wifi AND Bluetooth.

I Ordered a wireless dongle at Amazon on the cheap that works with every Linux distro I've tried. Make sure you specify "for Linux" when you do your search. I too have a broadcom wireless card that never worked with any Linux distro.

I should have mentioned, I connect to my home wi-fi via a USB adapter which has always worked fine even when dual booting with Linux (Ubuntu several years ago if my memory serves me correct).
Will pursue burning another distro to DVD to see if I have any better luck.
