Mx-15

I always read Dedoimedo's reviews, most I agree with and some I don't. :D

I was quite keen on this one after I looked at their download options which include a version with "KDE added", the latter being selected at login. Multiple DE's don't always work well but this one does.

I installed it into a mini-desktop containing an Asus J1800i-C with integrated Celeron 2.41 and 4G memory. In KDE form it runs like a dream and the default software list is one of the best I've seen. Memory use is just over 1G with a browser, Thunderbird and a few utilities running.

Well worth your time to look at.

Impressive product. Thanks for posting those links.

it's a very good release from their team,
& from older versions, do a clean install ..

a very respected system.

Agreed. The original Mepis dating from 2002 so in Linux terms has been around for ever.

The MX-15 installer is a bit quirky for those who haven't encountered it before but it's logical enough if you take your time with it.

+ 1

Agree with all of the above.

Had viewed videos about this distro before but never tested it until this day.
Even HP printer worked at first shot (which was automatically installed too!).

Have one issue... can not save a .jpg image from download section to xfce backgrounds.
It just will not let me.

Just create a folder for these images and then use the "Open" function to navigate to it and select.

Thanks again MC!

Nice snapshot too! :)

Okay.

In one word MC, well, maybe one phrase...
With all your experience with Linux distros, what makes you like MX-15 more than all the others you've tried and tested ?

Has Dedoimedo ever looked into it?

Dedoimedo reviewed the default Xfce version at the end of last month and gave it 9/10.

"Like" is quite subjective in the Linux world. I like Manjaro KDE but it breaks regularly after updates. I also like KAOS but that breaks all the time and often before you get it installed. :D I like Solus but the lack of software choice for it made me move on. I liked Deepin (a lot) but the move from an Ubuntu base to Debian introduced so much instability and ruined the look. MX-15 though is totally stable and has a great default software mix with two sessions included (if you choose the "KDE added" download), both of which work.

Overall, as I stated in another thread, there is still far too much choice and it's not easy to stick with one distro over another.
