Default PC-BSD Install error

I've always noticed that Free BSD sits at the bottom of Distro Watch's top ten major distro list. Having noticed a mention of BSD on this forum I decided to give it a spin.

I downloaded the USB image file of PC-BSD 3.3 GBs of file. I unzipped it and wrote it to a 32 GB thumb drive using USB Image Tool. Everything was fine and it wrote the image file with no trouble. I then booted off the USB drive which took me to the install GUI. The Partition I used was 52 GB on a second HDD which also holds my Mint 14 Mate OS. The install then proceeded up to the grub install part. It then failed with the following error:

usr/local/sbin/grub-bios-setup: warning your core .img is unusually large it wont fit in the embedded area

/usr/local/sbin-bios setup error: file system 'zfs doesnt support blocklist

I'm in unknown territory with no experience with BSD and was unable to get a clear direction from the forum. So Cthulhux if your reading this I could sure use some advice. I'm curios about PC-BSD and I wonder how stable it is along with other benefits.

Well thanks for all the suggestions
I installed Kubuntu instead, PC-BSD was probably more trouble than it was worth. If I want to use a quality "UNIX" system I still have Mint installed. So its back to trying out new Linux distro's (a hoobie of mine) on my (new) spare 52 GB partition. By the way Kubuntu seems to work much better since last try.

I've only installed it in in VirtualBox, but I suspect the hardware support isn't as good as (popular) Linux distros yet. It might be the USB image written as well, have you checked the checksums?

Yup, I've read on a few forums that it could be anything from expanding the size of my MBR (not sure if I understand that) to it not being a primary partition (which it is) to it not being wrote to the USB drive correctly. Honestly, from what I've read I don't see PC-BSD as something that will make me want to switch from Linux or Win7. I am curious though, so maybe I will give it a try with VirtualBox

Make sure you select Guest Additions in install, although you could add it later easily. Then it integrates better (resizable resolution, clipboard sharing, etc.)

"Good"? Well, I'd say "different" as it targets a different audience. So does iOS btw.

Glad to help!

Seriously: Your space is too narrow, I'd assume.
(BTW, if you want to contact me, send me a PM and don't hope I read every thread here. )

You assume too much. I on the other hand now know all I need to.

Cheers

You come to the wrong conclusion though.
