Yawn - not another distro!
![]() ![]() http://superxos.com/forums/viewtopic.php?pid=435 Joking apart though, India has already built up quite a reputation for technology, especially software development, and SuperX appears to be a good example. It's a beautiful rendition of KDE and their system cycle will appeal to a lot of folks who are fed up with having to re-install every few months or risk an upgrade to the latest version. SuperX uses only code from Ubuntu LTS releases and each is supported for a minimum of three years. I've just completed a straightforward and uneventful installation and everything works fine and looks great. ![]()

Screenshot here now. Been running solid all day - no crashes and a delight to use.

You can lock your widgets via the panel settings - "more settings". Thereafter, to unlock you need to go into the folder view settings and the unlock option will be at the top. They built in this safety feature to prevent users inadvertently deleting all their stuff. Now I can delete whichever of the default panel icons I don't need, in addition to those I added myself.

SuperX is now officially my best Linux experience. On my system it performs faultlessly, has a good, long life cycle and support queries have been answered promptly. What more could you ask for?

A 32 bit version is under development but I don't have a time line for its completion.
"32-bit ISO will also be available soon. Earlier we announced that SuperX 2.0 "Darwin" will not have a 32-bit version, but we are changing that decision back due to popular demand for the 32-bit version and incompatibility of certain applications with the 64-bit version".

Still well impressed with this. On a whim I also installed it on my Samsung RV415 laptop and considering this is KDE I cannot believe how fast it is compared to Mint that was dual booted on there with Windows 7 previously.
Now running faultlessly on both machines. ![]()

What are the odds that this Distro will remain viable for the long term?
I also see it using Linux kernel 3.2 and KDE 4.10.2 by default which are not current. I'm not testing out Linux distro's much now days however I did install Mint 15 on my spare 35 GB partition. I might wait a lil longer before replacing Mint 14 just to ensure the bugs are worked out, however its been flawless so far. |
