I agree, I find UFW lacking features but I'm not sure I want the Windows version of Comodo's firewall. Maybe something more customized for Linux.

Very true. UFW is yet another example where something in development is inferior to another product no longer supported, e.g. Firestarter which I still use. Why for instance should users have to resort to adding rules via terminal just to pass the Shields Up! test? With Firestarter this can be achieved via a single GUI click.

This post on the Ubuntu Forum helps shed some light on UFW (or the gui version Gufw) and Firestarter, there both front ends for itables. I agree though Firestarter makes it easier to configure.
