Default Ubuntu 12.10

Downloaded this new version and made a LiveUSB.

During install, it kept retrieving certain files from the Internet with no ends. Always stuck at retrieving files 10 of 57 or so. Pulling out the data cable helped completing the install but the incomplete retrieval of the files resulted into "The system is running in low graphics mode."

Retried to disconnect the Internet prior to the install and now it all went smoothly and booted into Ubuntu 12.10 with no issue.

Quite a number of PPAs are still not updated to the Ubuntu 12.10 release.

So much so that when you try to install an app such as Storage Device Manager from the Ubuntu Apps Directory, the app is not found. Similar problems are also reported in the Ubuntu Forum.

Another example is "Unity Window Quicklists" with its ppa:alanbell/unity

Has anyone encountered the same?

Thanks for plowing the road for us Jojoyee and showing whats coming down the road in the form of Mint. The problems you are finding are troublesome and I hope they are only the kind of the bugs that show up on all new releases.

I wonder how the machines actually pre-installed with Ubuntu (or will be in 2014) are accounted for in these figures? Quite a few are bought here this way because they are a lot cheaper than with Windows installed, but a significant number of these then install a pirated copy of 7 which costs $5.

Mine is the other way round. Bought a Windows pre-installed PC and then added a Linux distro to dual boot. This certainly will not be counted as a unit shipped with Linux.

Felt the same as in this report that Ubuntu 12.10 is slower than the previous release. Occasionally the HUD Dash just hanged in front of me when I typed a few words into the Search box, so much so that I need to reboot the PC for each occurence of this
