Thumbs up Which Download Directory Website do you prefer?

Most of us would first prefer the authors site, to download the software. In certain cases, when we need faster downloads, we download from these so called "download directory websites". The mirror sites employed in these download websites, gives you faster downloads. These sites not only indexes all the softwares present throughout the web, but also the "directory" type listing or categorization of softwares, lets you to view and choose other alternatives for a particular software, for the same purpose?

Filehippo is great, except that it is slower than Softpedia and Download.com to update their database

Still use FileHippo the most, so voted for that. I also often use DownloadBar, although there is shareware on there too, but it does sometimes post the latest freeware releases quicker than FileHippo and I've never had a problem with the files from there.

Wonder what happened to KalData? - everything stopped in December last year. I used to use that a lot. Shame.

I used to use it a lot too. When it stopped, I too wondered what happened to it. Then, after some days, I found out from their forum that kaldata.net will not be updated. Instead, they will keep the sister site updated now. Since it's not in English, I am not posting it here. Have sent you through the PM .

Softpedia gives a caution if any software has unwanted bundled components below the software reviews.....that's my first source of information to know ad-supported softwares. An impressive move by them.

Anupam, deya...I havn't heard of KalData? Is it good and which language is it?

Don't know about the language, but it's quite fast with the updates. If you want, I can send the link in PM.

Finally, CNET providing direct links to all the downloads, even without logging in, means I'll go back there, for downloading softwares since last fall. They have the largest database, good editorial reviews and still better, they provide updates as fast as Softpedia.
