I'm a portables fan too, I usually head to Portable Freeware Collection first when looking for something new.

Authors' sites are obviously to be preferred too, but I'm noticing quite often lately how an author's own d/l link goes to a site like cnet.

Ditto.
I always check with Portable Freeware Collection for software marked as "stealth" when looking for a new freeware program.

Me-three! I am a portable freak too and I always check Portable Freeware Collection. I wish there were portable (and stealth) versions of every program I ever wanted but we know that's not possible.

Anyway guys, it's kinda coincidental that I came across a related solution just yesterday. It's a user script called AntiAdware which must be used with Greasemonkey or another similar user script manager. It is suppose to protect you from adware, download accelerators and download managers. Personally, I am always super-careful but I installed the script still just in case. What do you think guys?
