My highly educated opinion is that I'm not even sure what the "turbo" feature does exactly other than I sometimes get a pop up saying "you appear to have a slow connection try the turbo etc. etc.)
I'm sure all the info is on the Opera site somewhere but I just haven't got round to looking for it. I'd be interested to know how engaging this feature might impact on other things though such as memory use, if anything? I'm still in love with the new skin - my wife says I should marry the computer. I can take a hint ![]()

Although I am an average user I have for the last couple of years, with satisfaction, used Firefox as my primary browser, reserving IE for one of my bank accounts (which did not accept Firefox) and a couple of other sites that only worked satisfactorily under IE. (Now and then I have also used Opera and K-Meleon.)
Lately I have had severe speed problems with Firefox - I think it started with 3.1 and became intolerable with 3.5. Regularly, I measure download and upload speed using a Swedish site. Here are the results from yesterday when I finally, with sorrow, had to give up on Firefox (speed is download speed given as Mbit/s): Firefox 3.5 (12.57), IE8.0 (23.40), Opera 9.64 (23.07). I have tried most of the recommendations for fixing the problem, including Firefox safe mode, creating a new profile, uninstall and reinstall, with no success. Reading about IE8 it seems to be much more secure, for the time being, than earlier version, so this is what I will use (there are to many for me important sites that do not accept Opera) - at least until Firefox comes up with a new version which runs satisfactorily. |

My Ffx has slowed to a crawl now, but I'd have to blame myself here, as it's got about 30 plugins.
I use K-meleon instead now for most browsing, with Ffx open on the quickstart bar, and just click it in when I need the tools. Problem solved. K-meleon is what Ffx should be - excellent, secure, lightning fast - and Ffx has the tools. |

The speed of downloads is via the Firefox download manager? Please elaborate more.
I have FF 3.5, and while browsing the sites, I feel that FF 3.5 is definitely faster than the previous version, and many others agree to it. But yes, as always FF is slow to load up when started cold. That is something that FF should address... have to wait quite long sometimes. The main reason for that I think is that while starting up, FF checks for the updates to the different extensions that are installed. More the extensions, longer the start-up time. But really, the slow loading up sucks. Other than that, I am very happy with FF ![]()

Oh yes, that is also an issue with FF, that I would like to see addressed. They should work on it, like the Digsby team did, and they succeeded too. Sometimes, I look at the task manager, and the memory used by FF just keeps increasing, even when no activity is going on with the browser
