Opera questions

Firefox is currently haning a lot and my current borwseras of now is chrome and frankly i dont have any major problems with it but i do get minor problems with it
so i want to try opera again
I have tried to use opera for a few times but i didnt like some feature or the other

one main problem - the bookmark bar
the opera bookmark toolbar shows an arrow to the right of every folder in the bookmark bar - any way to remove it ?
the bookmarks in the folders dont show in the same way as they show in chrome

any way to move the opera icon from the top right to the toolbar ?

there are just too many options in settings - any things i need to change in settings to make it faster or better ?

Can't remove that... its the way they have designed it.

Every browser has got their own way of doing things.
Any particular thing you are looking for? I don't have Chrome, so I don't know the bookmarks function in Chrome. So, you will have to be specific.

Only thing you can do for is that to click on Opera icon, and choose the option "Show Menu Bar"... which will make it change its Chrome-like appearance, back to normal Menu bar mode.

So many settings can be a bit overwhelming at first, but take sometime to go through them... they are not much.

If you have a slow internet, you can turn on the Opera Turbo feature. Other than that, I think you yourself should go through the settings, and decide how you want them.

i have many folders on the bookmark bar and many bookmarks in those folders
the way i have arranged the bookmarks they appear the same way when i import them in firefox but they are shown alphabatically in opera - both the folders and the bookmarks in them - so i have to rearrange them again !

that takes even more space - no way to move it like in firefox ?

The settings il go through them again but they should keep the settings to a minimal like in chrome and firefox

To move the Opera icon from the top right; right click the icon - customize - appearance. Select 'Buttons', then 'Browser'. Drag the Opera icon to the bottom bar, place it where you want it - click ok. Now you should have one at the top and one at the bottom.

Go back to the top right icon, right click, customize - appearance. Click the 'Placement' drop down and select 'off'. Click ok. Now you should have just the one icon at the bottom.

If you want the text at the side of the icon image, right click it, customize - appearance - then select the 'Style' drop down - select 'Images text on right', then ok.

You can move the icon around by right clicking it - customize - appearance - then move it where you want to.

To revert back to default settings just right click any toolbar, select customize, then 'Reset Toolbar To Its Defaults'.

OK... got it.. after searching for a while.

Go to Bookmarks --> Manage Bookmarks(Ctrl+Shift+b)

In the bookmarks management screen, click on View, which is on RHS, besides the search box. There, you will get various options to sort the bookmarks by. One of the options is to "Sort by My Order". I think that would suit you. You can select it before importing any bookmarks, so that they remain in the same order when you import them.

Again, I am not quite sure what you are asking here. Explain more.
Which Opera icon are you talking about? The big Opera icon marked O at the top left, from where the menu opens? The one equivalent of the orange Firefox icon?

Or, are you talking about something else.

You can arrange the browser looks by "Appearance"(Shift+F12) .. many options are there.

If you give more details, maybe can help.

Well, thats the way they are.. and have kept it that way. I think there are many settings, because as you can see above, Opera is highly customizable. I too found out about the bookmarks order setting today itself. I had never looked there.

So, for such high degree of customizability, I think many settings will be there. Can be quite confusing at first.

I feel they could make it a little better, maybe more organized... because I feel the settings are quite scattered.

Some users really swear by Opera. I appreciate its customizability, and other things, and I have tried to like Opera, but I just can't. I don't get the "feel" with it :D..

Thanks deya.

Wow.. I would never have figured that out :D.

I had managed to get to Appearance, and toolbar, and managed to select the icon, but I just could not manage to move it elsewhere.

I had managed to turn if off altogether however, and then realized I cant access the menu anywhere :D.... don't ask how I managed to bring it back, because I don't remember :D.

BTW, the icon is not on top right, but on top left, atleast on my browser :p

Sorry - can't tell my left from my right - I meant top left :)

Thanx deya for the opera icon walkthrough..now it looks like i want it
and thanx anupam for the bookmarks help - now they are shown how i want them to
il have to tinker the settings one by one to see how they work - that will take a lot of time !
also can u both plz tell me whch adblocker u use ?
and one last problem i have right now is the gap between the tab and top of my screen - how do i make that zer ?

deya 04. Feb 2012 07:40 PM

I use Opera AdBlock, works fine for me;
https://addons.opera.com/en/addons/e...52/?display=en

If you have a gap above the tabs, move your cursor above the address bar until you see the directional double arrow, hold your left mouse button and drag the browser up or down. You should be able to get the tabs right to the top of the screen.

Av_Crazy 05. Feb 2012 12:05 PM

Usign opera adblock right now
there is still gap between the tab and the top of screen
why dont they make opera like other browsers atleast in the look

one more problem - the folder in bookmark bar shows bookmark page and open all folder items first and den my bookmarks - any way to remove/hide these options ?
