Hi Scope,
Glad to hear that you have not encountered any problems. I guess it may depend on what you access. I use OO CALC and WRITER a lot on my W7/32 system and on Ubuntu I use IMPRESS quite a bit. Anyways here is the fix I got (it is not a reg fix) from the LibO forum for _x86...

LibreOffice users may find after updating from 1.6.X to version 1.7.X that it fails to load when looking for dictionaries. Please remove the following file which will be automatically re-created with the correct information the next time you load LibreOffice:

%APPDATA%\LibreOffice\3\user\config\javasettings_W indows_x86.xml

Thanks to Marcus Pollice for sharing solution on LibreOffice Bugzilla

NB: Anupam, If you open the Java webpage and click on 'download other versions' there is a blurb there that states that some applets are failing under 1.7 and that is why 1.6 is still available. I had to go to this page to download the latest 1.6 update.

Thanks for the info. Looks like it's a bug relating to the changing of dictionaries. I haven't experienced it though. I'm also very unlikely to want to change the dictionary I'm using in any case.

JRE updated.

JRE 6 to JRE 6 update 34, and JRE 7 to JRE 7 update 6.
