Xmarks, the very popular, and excellent bookmark syncing service, will be shutting down on Jan 10, 2011.
With new versions of browsers now offering their own syncing service, Xmarks was finding it hard to sustain its business, and therefore decided to shut down the service. Its a sad news, because Xmarks service has been excellent for so many years, and more importantly, the service was offered across different browsers. More about the news can be read in detail on this LifeHacker article : http://lifehacker.com/5649435/xmarks...n-january-2011 The announcement of Xmarks in on their page here : http://www.xmarks.com/about/shutdown Xmarks says that no personal information will be given out or sold. And any data on the site will be deleted once the service shuts down. People who want to delete their data, and their account can do so by clicking a link provided on the page, under the heading of Privacy and Your Data.

Yes, I think that's the option that will be used once Xmarks shuts down.
Transmute can be used to convert bookmarks for one browser to another browser. On Firefox, I use FEBE, which offers bookmarks backup among other backups, in both json and html format.

Sad news indeed as Xmarks has ben indispensable for me since I love having the same bookmarks present on my LT and DT. FEBE is fine as a bookmark backup but I will greatly miss the bookmark syncing between different PCs.

Please enlighten us as to why you are happy. Your comment seems very strange. Xmarks only got better and better over time. Millions of people used it. It was a very good free service.
