Well, finally tracked this issue down to the AV I am currently looking at which has itīs own surf protection. With this disabled everything works fine. Thanks to everyone for their help - should have thought about this earlier

It's not ideal but it's better than nothing, at least you get WOT with Sleipnir, to a degree, which is great because I like the browser, always have.

I've noticed a little quirk with it though, at least for me. When I do a search and the results appear there are no WOT icons displayed, only the bullseyes. But if I click on 'more results' then all the WOT icons appear at the side of every link, it's works perfect, once I've loaded page 2. Tried it and tried it, but it works every time.

Still can't understand why this search engine remains so relatively obscure, probably because everyone just uses the WOT add-on in a browser that supports it. But that aside, it really does dig out some obsure links once you get into using it.

I've been following the thread and wanted to jump in to a) thank you for the compliments and b) offer assistance. It would appear as though you've been able to resolve most of the issues (the WOT/Surf Canyon search engine can be found at http://wot.SurfCanyon.com and all of the functionality should be available without any browser add-ons), but please let us know if there's anything we may do to help. If for any reason you'd like to contact us directly, we can be found at http://www.surfcanyon.com/contact.jsp. Thanks!

Great! So please clear up this point if you don't mind: when I do a search using this link provided by deya, the bottom of the results page has a logo seeming to indicate that the Bing engine was used (by default). Is there a way (without downloading a plug-in) that I can enjoy the facility of surfcanyon with the Google engine? Do you have a separate URL for doing searches via the Google engine?

Always great to see folks taking the time and trouble to contribute here directly.
Thanks for this, no doubt you will be getting a few more questions

@SurfCanyon, .. I have a few questions regarding the search engine.

1) Am I right in thinking that the search engine filters out all the WOT red rated links from the search results? .. I've still yet to come across a red icon.

2) Can you explain the reason why the search engine performs differently [in showing the WOT icons] with browsers using the Trident engine? .. IE, Spleipnir, Maxthon etc.

3) Does the search engine work just the same for those who prefer not to use add-ons or plug-ins in their browser? .. obviously apart from blocking sites.

4) Is your partnership with WOT and ongoing thing, and will the joint search engine be developed any further?

I've done a bit of reading up on the concept of Surf Canyon search and I'm using it more now, it does bring up some great search results. But the thing that will concern the people who read and use this website and forum more is can it be trusted in the same way as they trust their search results with the WOT add-on?

On a personal note, for me to be able to view the WOT ratings in browsers that don't support the add-on is really good, and very useful. So thanks for that, I'm glad I came across the search engine .. [eventually]

Just to change the first question I asked about filtering. I tried several times to uncheck the 'Exclude sites with poor reputation' box but it doesn't seem to disable the filter, which is why I've never come across a red WOT icon, this is with Gecko, Webkit and Trident browsers. But if I unckeck the box when using Opera it remains unchecked and the results aren't filtered, I get the red icons. In all the other browsers the box won't remain unchecked. Any idea why that would be?

Thank you for posting this question. Currently, we use both Bing and Yahoo!, however, users are assigned randomly to one or the other. So two questions:

1) What would you think of using Yahoo!?
2) What would you think if we enabled users to select (perhaps via URL parameter) the underlying search engine that they wanted to use?

As for Google, we currently don't have a solution. If we're ever able to get it then we'll certainly plug it in.
