Default Element Browser

My wife always likes something different which I guess is why she chose me Well, now she (or anyone else) can have a Webkit based browser which is very different to what you might have used before. Even Anupam might like this one

I first encoutnered this developper last year when I began taking an interest in a beta stage security suite (Element Total Protect) reportedly written by a 19 year old student. This has now developped into a full commercial suite so is of little interest here, but the browser and other freeware products such as the mail client and photo gallery might be. This is what the developer, Jake Jackson, told me about his browser.

"Element Browserís feature set and design is unique to the market, thereís no other browser that looks and functions the way Element Browser does.

Features that make it stand out from the crowd include Tabs with Live thumbnail views, A start screen with many helpful gadgets, A centralized menu system which is task oriented, in comparison to Firefox where you have to dig down menus to find what you are looking for, it supports HTML5, which Firefox 3.6 does not fully support yet, and delivers same JavaScript performance that the latest Google Chrome does (according to accurate SunSpider results - http://jcxp.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=3179

It also includes Widgets, Anti-Malware protection, Family Safety filtering, Mouse Gestures, Macros and Social networking built into itís core. Itís social networking tools allow users to directly access their twitter and MSN accounts without having to interrupt the page they are viewing or switch to another program , tab or page, they can access it straight from the menu system. It also allows them to have direct, live conversations just like you can in Windows Live Messenger, which by far exceeds any social networking tools that Flock offers.

Pictures explain more than words:

In comparison to Google Chrome, Element Browser is a much smaller download. Google Chromeís download size is almost 70MB, which is disguised by its download manager. Safari is also around 30MB, the same as Element Browser, so itís not that much of a difference. In comparison to Firefox, there is, but thereís less features in Firefox by default when compared to Element, hence Firefoxís smaller download size."

Does it work? - well you tell us. I'm going to give it a try later

Thanks for this information MC. I was not aware of this browser, or the site. From what you have written in this post, and what I saw on the site, the browser looks good, and I am quite tempted to try it. It certainly looks different, and the features are interesting. I will give it a try tomorrow... or later. Also, I noticed, there are some other freeware on his site, which look interesting, and different. The look of the site is pleasing. Some software from there can be suggested on our site. Good find MC .

I will download and install the browser probably tomorrow... lets see if I like it. One more browser to play with... I hope Taurus is reading .

Well, MC has got off to a flying start having installed OK and then receiving this error while playing with the settings which I can't get rid of, even with a cleanup and re-install

I believe that Jake is going to join in here himself so no doubt he'll soon be posting and telling me what I've done wrong to break his program

I've mailed him with the same details anyway but in the meantime I think I'll just sit quietly in this corner

Affirmative Anupam.

I was just reading the website myself. Do I understand correctly that no real-time anti-virus\malware is need with this browser?

MC, sitting quietly in the corner? This does not compute.

This is all new stuff to me too. Obviously I'm aware of the commercial suite but not certain of how this might be related to what goes on in the browser.

Hopefully Jake will arrive here and answer these queries himself. He has said he will join our forum

Ahh great! So someone tried out the browser before me. That's what I was hoping for . I had a feeling, I would get errors with this browser, that's why I was thinking whether to try it or not... because it is different and therefore, its functioning might be different from other browsers.

Since MC got an error, and Taurus has also raised a question, I think I will wait for Jake to join the forum, and answer the questions. I will then try the browser out. Or maybe, I will test it out on another spare hard disk. I will put it on hold for now.

I was actually trying to work out the theme possibilities and may have caused my error myself in some way. Whatever, I know you guys here are always respectful but I would just request anyway that if and when Jake does turn up we resist the temptation to start banging his head because things don't work as expected. Innovative stuff is bound to have some issues and hopefully we can help with whatever feedback he might need to iron these out.
