I still have Java installed, because I use programs that require it. It's a programming language not just limited to online sites.

This is true but since i no longer use any programs that require Java, i don't see the point in having it on my machine. Nothing to stop me reinstalling it if i need to. You make a valid point though J_L, and not everyone's requirements are the same.

Updated yesterday. The routine to get rid of the useless addons & plugins added to Firefox is becoming really cumbersome - flirting with the idea of removing Java completely.
Easy to remove, once removed, you ll never go back to it. Main reasons,
you ll realize that you don't need it at all, no more painful updating and
best of all, you are safer.

Totally agree with the last sentence of this paragraph.

Thanks Anupam! Flash one day, then JRE the next. It's kind of comical. After I did the Flash update on Monday, I looked for a new version of JRE with none to be found. Guess I was a bit early.

My pleasure .

Well, Flash and JRE are from different vendors, and are not necessarily updated together. So yes, maybe you really looked early .

Note that updating patches nearly all Java malware.

Nearly scores a run, nearly scores a goal, nearly wins the game.........
nearly does not count. Not on my book, anyway.
