Opera Stable updated to Version:65.0.3467.42. No mention on the blog, as yet, so maybe another silent update.

Still can't play www.cbs.com videos.
Wonder why Vivaldi (and other Chrome clones) can but Opera can not?

Anyway, last new Opera features were welcome.

On opening Opera today I had a huge banner advert across the top of my speed dial. Black Friday deals, one for Amazon, one for eBay and one from Opera titled 'what is Black Friday'.

'Receive promoted Speed Dials and Bookmarks' and 'Show Speed Dial suggestions' are both disabled in my settings.

'Show Continue Shopping section' and 'Show Continue on Booking.com' were both disabled but on checking noticed they had both been enabled. I didn't re-enable them, so who did?

That's it. Opera is no longer my default browser. I'm beginning to wonder what exactly is in the 'silent' updates they have been issuing of late.

I'll keep the browser installed (for now) just for the VPN which, I might add, is very hit and miss just recently, failing to connect most days or causing pages to load very slowly.

Although free, the quality of the product in recent builds is poor. The banner ad is the final straw. Until they up their game and stop being sneaky I'll use Opera much less.

The Muppets would do a better job of developing the browser than the Opera devs at the moment. Shocking quality.

Sorry to hear that Deya.
Haven't taken Opera out for a ride over a week, so it might be their latest update.
Do you use other ad blockers than their native?

Will check out tomorrow and see (on Android tablet too).

I use uBlocko as well as the built in ad blocker, danielson. There's a thread in their forum;

https://forums.opera.com/topic/36685...ed-small-tiles

.... so I'm not the only one it happened to. I just find the whole thing unacceptable, especially when I've specifically set the browser to not receive rubbish like that. I'm not interested in people selling their wares, at all.

It's become more obvious to me of late that Opera are not the company they once were, obviously influenced now by the people who bought them out and so now, for me, it's time to draw the line.

Twice recently I've had to re-install Opera because of speed-dial issues ie, not loading at start up, tiles vanishing. It never used to do that. Niggling little bugs that shouldn't be there, at least not in the Stable releases. Also, features that are neither useful nor interest me, personally. I find myself turning everything off. I'm not interested in crypo wallets, currency converters, social media access, instant Google search - Google in general, and the inability to set my own default search.

At least with those things I can turn them off, and I thought I'd turned off all the marketing stuff but apparently not, Opera see it differently and that's fine. It's their browser. There are plenty of others around so I've switched default to one of those and see how it goes.

Hardly a rant ..... more of a set of observations, ending with a fact. This is more of a rant;

https://forums.opera.com/topic/36300...el-is-worrying

.... you'll notice the lack of a reply and if you look through their forum you'll come across several more rants all of a similar vein, some of which have merited a reply or two.

I still have Opera installed but rarely use it and it's no longer set as my default browser. They seem to be concentrating more of their efforts and resources into their GX Gaming browser at the moment and as a consequence Opera Stable is suffering from a lack of care and attention.

https://www.opera.com/ads

..... plus, they seem to be steering it more in that direction.
