Clearly it's not Firefox hogging the RAM, but the add-ons.

Indeed, but you'd think that abandoning Legacy extensions would have resolved similar issues no? Why upset long-time users who were quite content with extensions and fixing them up when need be to replace them with another bunch that aren't any better?

Frustrated Firefox user.

Indeed FF has lost my support.
Long live Palemoon that has not screwed legacy users.

So far Firefox Quantum is slower. It is also the worst performing web browser I've used in a long time. Not because it is consistently slow but because it has irregular slow downs when I have about 10 or more tabs open.

This problem has existed since I've been using Quantum. On occasions, but not consistently, Firefox memory usage sky rockets from less than 1GB to 4-8GB.

On reviewing similar issues that others have had I have enabled "Prevent accessibility services from accessing your browser". I have no idea why this would work for some users. Hopefully it will work for me too.

If i have time, i might give Firemin a shot to see if it will a true impact on keeping extension memory usage under control.
Spotted latest update on MajorGeeks today.

Default about:config tweaks

Picked-up suggested speed tweaks from a post at our friends from MajorGeeks but can't seem to disable "toolkit.telemetry.enabled" which is "locked" and to make things even more interesting, the forum here has blocked a word or more (hard to tell which one if not highlighted) so here is the suggested tweaking from:

Interesting!
Just looked at it from within Q4OS (instead of Win10) and it is disabled.
Still can't access it to change it though.

Not so sure if any of this really improves Firefox speed.
