Opera introduces Opera for PC's with Instant Search and makes browsing on mobile and desktop one;

https://blogs.opera.com/desktop/2018...e-desktop-one/

It's Opera 52, with new features;

Instant Search lets you search the web and find tabs quickly

Instant Search also lets you find a tab lost among many

Flow: mobile and desktop web become one

.... and - Opera Touch: a new mobile browser for Android;

https://blogs.opera.com/mobile/2018/...obile-browser/

.. download link;

If you're using Opera 52 already it will update to R2, no need to do a clean install. You need to install the Android version from Google Play, via the link above.

Did you use it yet deya?

I have been using Firefox on Android, and I love it as much as I love it on desktop. Initially, Firefox wasn't good on Android, and I didn't like it, and used Opera for a while, but didn't like it much either. Firefox works great now.

I've installed Touch on my phone and my Android tablet, Anupam. I'm just trying it for now. Flow connected easily to my Opera desktop browser with both devices and works well. The connection is encrypted, end to end, so not bad. I can see a use for it, especially for notes in my case.

Touch is designed to be used one handed on your phone, but my phone is Blackberry Keyone which has a physical keyboard so I don't see the touch screen keypad in the browser, and I use the phone with both hands to type anyway - so not much use in that respect to me. I get the full effect on the tablet though, and it works fine.

The ad blocker works well in Touch. But the only option to search is Google, which I don't like, nor use. Same applies to the Instant Search feature on the desktop browser, just Google although you can get round that by typing, say for example 'b' before your search text for it to use Bing - or 'd' for DuckDuckGo etc.

The browser I use on my tablet and phone is Yandex. It has Turbo (Opera) and also it allows me to use AdGuard ad blocker, which works very well. It has a built in translator and also the Tableau for favourite sites. I also prefer to use Yandex search. For the way I personally use my phone, I've not come across a better browser to date ... and I've tried a few. Just personal choice.

However, I'm more than prepared to keep using Opera Touch and see how it works out for me because as I said, I can see things that could become very useful on a daily basis ie, Flow.

As always though, as we know it comes down to personal choice and if you're happy with Firefox or whatever other browser then you tend to stick with them - as is the case with me and Yandex. No harm in trying something different though, and I expect Touch to improve quickly so see where it goes.

Thanks deya.

Yes, ultimately, it does come down to personal choice, and mine remains Firefox.

I used to try different browsers earlier, but I don't feel like doing them now. I have been downloading setups for Vivaldi in the hope that I will try it out sometime, but I haven't come around to it yet.

Let's see if I try Opera R2.

For what it's worth... Touch only works (syncs) with desktop stable (not beta or dev) which i find odd.

Yes, Flow is only available in Opera 52 Stable. I suppose their way of thinking is that most people use the Stable version so obviously a bigger audience from the launch which equals more users straight away. It will be in the Dev version in coming updates as it develops.

Flow is different to sync in that it doesn't syncronise everything in the browser ie, bookmarks etc. It's more like an instant messenger from phone to browser. This from the Touch blog page;

An encrypted stream of things, that you share with yourself

This one step, which consists of scanning a QR code, displayed in the Opera computer browser with Opera Touch, establishes a Flow, our innovative way of allowing you to share: links, images, videos, or notes with yourself. Flow is available both: in Opera Touch, and in the updated version of the Opera PC browser. And the good news? It doesnít require any logins, or passwords. At the same time, itís end-to-end encrypted and safe.

You can only have one device (phone/tablet) connected at a time and the Flow is between the phone and the desktop browser .... way I see it is it doesn't have to be used just by yourself either if, say for example, you have someone in an office using the desktop and you out on site or wherever using it on a phone. An instant flow of information between the two, provided it's connected. At least that's the way I personally would find it to be useful. Whether it's a viable option remains to be seen as yet - taking into account mobile data usage etc.

The Touch browser (Android) itself isn't something I'd use generally. I prefer to have a few favourite sites at hand in a mobile browser, not ones that come up as I search and are retained as 'most visited' ... I also prefer to be able to close background tabs as required, individually, not all at once. I also prefer to use other search engines than Google, unless I first search for, then load and use Yandex/Bing or whatever. At the moment I can't do these things with Touch and as I mentioned before, my phone is not just a touch phone. I use a physical keyboard and shortcuts to launch apps, type etc. So I'm not the target audience for Opera Touch browser.

But Opera have a habit of bringing out these new designs and then seeing how people use them. They also have a habit of dropping projects if they're not deemed to be as popular as they hoped. In those cases, certain parts of a project, the popular ones, may be implemented into other Opera products. So, I can see Flow being introduced into something like their other browsers, maybe Opera for Android, in the future.

Touch browser is good, but without Flow it's just another decent Android browser at this moment in time - my opinion. But to a younger generation, who use their phones different to the way I do, it's probably a good option to have with you on the move ... and that, I suspect, is their target audience.

Thanks for the heads up deya!
Will give it a shot.

With Anupam, do agree that Firefox on Android is pretty decent.
It's the only one i know that can effectively close all open tabs on exit.
