That option is provided at the launch of the online installer too.

I have no idea though, of how the automatic update works as I have never used it.

I always like to do the update myself by using setups, and I don't like adding a service unnecessarily to my computer. So, never used that option.

Ok, I've reinstalled the last outdated version and told it to notify me when there's an update available... just to see if it directs me to the website to download the new version or gives the option to update directly... hasn't offered me anything yet so far!

The download button just opens a browser to install in the usual way rather than to actually download an offline installer that previously you could get from the distribution page.

I guess changing the settings to the "automatically install updates" option would perform an update in the background.... but I don't entirely trust Adobe to do it cleanly without additions

Which option had you chosen? To check for updates and alert you?

It is alerting you about the new update after quite many days, which isn't good

Yes and yes!

I also noted it says...

"if you have selected to allow Adobe to install updates, this update will be installed on your system automatically within 45 days or you can choose to download it now" no rush then!

Yes, I noted that too.

Within 45 days  .. that's kind of a joke, considering the security vulnerability flash player gets.

Well after I last posted, I decided to reinstall Adobe Flash Player again using those last outdated offline installers I have, but this time selecting to allow automatic updates to be handled by Adobe Flash Player in the background....

....hey presto... I've just checked and I now have this latest version installed on my system as of yesterday, and with no hidden extras added it would appear!

Anupam 28. Oct 2016 08:07 AM

That's good to know Sope :). Glad it worked well for you.

it's a pain the ass but you can still use offline installer, for some reason adobe has always called it a debug download. Maybe it is slightly different? I don't know but it works.

I use it so i can add flash to my portable firefox

windows 10 seems to block the automatic setup for me, FYI, no idea how to get around it. I tried to "unblock" it but during the install it would fail regardless. Anyhow, I like the above method for offline installer

between flash and firefox, my entire setup is using debug/dev versions :( boo firefox addons not being verified (won't give them up though, nothing seems to work as well as 6 year old plugins)
