Bo
I have now managed to update from 37.0.2 to 38.0.1 via About Firefox and my PC doesn't crash!
However, I now can't run FF in Sandboxie.

I get a 1308 message stating that firefox.exe can't start due to restrictions and a 2314 saying, cancelling process firefox.exe.

I have checked under Restrictions > Internet Access and Start/Run Access and both have firefox.exe listed as a program allowed to run in the sandbox.

Any suggestions will be gratefully received!

PS FF runs fine outside of Sandboxie.

I think they must have noticed issues with Firefox 38.0, when it was released, and probably that's why the update was not being offered via update from browser.

And now that they have released 38.0.1, the update is available, and can be installed.

The release notes do mentioned trouble with Nvidia graphics card:

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo.../releasenotes/

Since some time, Firefox has been having issues related to graphics card, and/or hardware acceleration. So, if any issues do occur, try turning off hardware acceleration.

Hi Torres, this sort of thing can happen if you do not delete your sandbox when you close the browser. If you keep contents in the sandbox, you should always delete the sandbox after upgrading the browser (outside the sandbox), before running the browser sandboxed again. So, the first thing I suggest you do is Delete contents if you don't. And make sure Firefox is allowed to run in Sandbox restrictions.

If all of that is OK, try running Firefox in a new sandbox. I am running as of this moment SBIE beta 4.17.6 with Firefox 38.0.1 with no problems. I am in W7 right now and all was well for me last night in XP. Also, I haven't read of anyone using Firefox reporting an issue like yours. But I read early today this guy using Chrome reporting something sort of similar to what you have described.

Thanks for this. It is a good change... now I can check the version number without Firefox downloading itself automatically.

Hi Bo,

I always have my default sandbox set to automatically delete the contents when closing my browser.

I have now made a new sandbox and copied over the settings from the sandbox that was causing me problems and now everything works fine; many thanks!

The only hitch is that I can't delete the old sandbox: Sandboxie > Delete Contents states there are are no files or folders to recover at this time; however, it then says there are file and folders occupying 167 MB of space.

When I click on Delete contents I get another dialogue box called Sandboxie Start that states it could not move the sandbox folder out of the way and the object (file or folder) may be in use by another program. System Error Code: Access is denied. (5)

TIA

Not sure if about:config will help you but maybe this can help.
Typing in "version" and these showed up in the results:
extensions.lastAppVersion;38.0.1
extensions.lastPlatformVersion;38.0.1

Or try Filehippo's App Manager:

Reboot the PC. Affer the reboot, you should be able to delete the sandbox. Afterward, you ll be able to run Firefox 38.0.1 in this sandbox as well.

Rebooted and have now managed to delete the dodgy sandbox - everything is tickety-boo!

Many thanks Bo.

PS It's a pity Sandboxie don't tell the user to reboot instead of giving meaningless and confusing statements/codes when things go awry.
