This is strange.
Just spotted Yandex on MajorGeeks for the first time today. Downloaded it from MG and version number is 15.12.0.6151 (help says it's up to date). Tried again by downloading via MG but direct from server to overwrite existing install, same version number, up to date. Transparency is gone in this (latest?) beta version. No issues with extension icons (just wish they could be "slided" over). |

I think you've installed the latest stable version. This is a translated entry from the Club Browser blog, dated Dec 7;
"We are starting to distribute a new stable version of the Yandex.15.12 browser which includes fixes, not only security, but also some other features. You can now select text in the links part. For this, simply hold down the ALT key and you need to allocate space in the link. It is now possible to partially allocate and content tables. Take a look. To do this hold down the CTRL button. Subtle changes, but we are often asked for this by active users. The browser now supports PPAPI version of the Flash Player plugin. Contrast to the current NPAPI-version, the new version is isolated from the browser itself, and it increases the safety of users" danielson, if you want to enable the newer interface load the flags page in Yandex, here; browser://flags/#enable-custo .... second entry down "Enable Cousteau" .... enable it and you should see the newer interface after a re-start? It should work, although I'm running the Beta and so haven't tried it. Cousteau is the project name for the new look browser - Project Cousteau - which is the Beta version, they named it after Jacques Cousteau, the ocean explorer. I think they refer to the new look interface as Calypso, which was Jacques Cousteau's exploration vessel. I read somewhere that they were thinking about fazing in the new look gradually because some users have been confused by it .... maybe that's why there's no transparency in the stable version you're using. |

Wow! Jacques Cousteau! Haven't heard that name in a while!
"Cousteau" is nice - kind of gives you new themes without the fuss of adding any. (recurring issue of disappearing extension icons though). Someone is going to have to explain to me what that ALT link stuff is about. Not so sure about version numbering. Do they count differently in Russian? |

There's a video link on their blog that shows the ALT link stuff;
https://yadi.sk/i/AS-oZKwFkFhNs It's Russian but there is no speaking or text. Just a silent, self explanatory video clip - much like your extension buttons video so it should be ok to put the link here. It doesn't always play in Yandex so if it won't for you then just play it in another browser - could be an extension blocking it for me. Agree about the version numbering. It can be slightly confusing. |

The version I've been using, v 15.12.2490.3614 beta, has updated to v 16.2.0.2568 beta. Once updated I got this page;
https://browser.yandex.com/calypso/welcome-update/ Auto updated no problems and running fine. |

I also prefer tabs at the top, but I like the way they make it easy to switch them from top to bottom by right clicking the tab and selecting the option from the drop down menu. I like the way they optimise screen space with the new style UI. Very effective on smaller screens.
