Default Thunderbird & Microsoft Exchanges server

Hi I have 2 work email addresses, one for all important office documents and another for contact with myself. I only want access to emails for myself. They use the Outlook Web App Microsoft exchange server. But i get annoyed logging in to the email from a web browser and i use thunderbird. I have asked the IT Team if the could give me pop or imap access, but they havnt got round to it, as they are a small team with a lot of work. Been waiting 5 months...

I found a Thunderbird addon ExQuilla that allows me to gain remote access to the server. I like the addon works great. But it is only free for a limited time, then there is a subscription.

Does anyone know a free alternative?

Just a update.
I found that if i used Davmail it would allow me access to the online web exchange. But the IT team got back to me and gave me the access. So all sorted now.
