Default Shared.com 100 GB Free Storage

https://shared.com/
I have no opinion on this (too many cloud accounts already), but 100 GB just by registering is exceptional. No mention about limited time offer.

Wow that's quite a humungous number of gigabytes for a free account!

I also have a load of cloud accounts - when it was still a fairly new thing I collected loads of them and used them a lot, but now I just use dropbox now and again. I'll check this one out though, just out of interest.

Thanks for the post : -)

Thanks. Maybe Hot Finds would be a better place for this, can someone move the thread?

Looking at the site it definitely seems to be aimed more at sharing than storage. Hence the name I guess :-) It's entirely web-based, nothing to download or install. The site itself looks pretty good really, although the "tour" doesn't seem to show the ads.

The only other limitations for the free account appear to be file size (2gb), no parallel downloads, and it's ad supported. I expect there's probably a monthly bandwidth limit too or something like that. It also says no direct downloads with the free account, but I'm not exactly sure what they mean by that. Possibly you can only share with people who are also signed up.

I guess for me, that although the initial reaction to 100gb is "wow", it's not something I'd really use. I wouldn't want to rely on it for storing anything like that amount of data, and I just don't do a lot of file sharing. Since the novelty wore off I don't even fill my 6gig Dropbox or Google drive any more.

Interesting find though, perhaps useful for people who share a lot if the limitiations on the free account don't make it unusable.

I'll probably look into it further at some point... a while ago I offered to host a Total War mod in Dropbox temporarily, as the devs were having problems with their own site. It was a only a matter of hours before I received a message saying I was exceeding my daily bandwidth allowance hence my wondering what the policy is at Shared.

Anyone forgetting MEGA the successor to MegaUpload with 50GB for free and no restrictions on file sizes for upload?

Comparison of Cloud Storage

Although 100GB looks cool for Shared

Don't think these are storage sites. Rather, these are sharing sites, and so, do not exactly come under the category of storage sites, which let you store your personal files.

MEGA is a cloud storage/file hosting site with industry leading privacy and encryption. Sharing is optional for all these types of storage sites.

Read here, especially about data encryption: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mega_(website)
