Maxthon 4.1.2.3000 released.
It seems extremely quick to me, compared to previous versions. I've not checked out all the functions, e.g download manager which has been having one or two issues lately, but page rendering is very much improved for me. Also they're reminding us that Blink is coming very soon. I don't even know what Blink is really, other than an alternative web engine. I hope it won't be a case of "It wasn't broken but we fixed it anyway. Oops." : -) |

... there are some nice skin mods on the Chinese forums, I'm quite liking this one with slimmed down tabs and sidebar, although the navigation bar is still a little large for my taste and I will edit the Chrome-style tabs for something a bit more firefoxy and probably do something with the colour too.

Released yesterday, apparently the last of the 4.1.2.X series. There's also talk of a Linux version being developed.
Going by today's posts this latest version still hasn't got all the bugs ironed out, but I still like it a lot as a secondary browser and its QuickApp capabilty is the best SSB I've found so far. |

It, at least, has a forum or community where you can post questions or issues and get relatively quick responses. It syncs bookmarks, add-ons, etc. across multiple PC's and platforms. You have 2 different engines to choose from. I had an issue with it and Sandboxie, but I wrote about them in the Sandboxie forums and Tzuk fixed the issue. On my work PC, Maxthon opens in literally 3-4 seconds, while FF takes almost 15-20. And, page rendering is much faster. What's not to like?! P.S. Yes, you can now call me a Maxthon "fanboy"..... ![]()

Extensions aren't very well supported either yet, some of my most-used like Xmarks, Pocket, Lastpass and so on are either absent entirely or present in the form of extensions made by community coders. FF is still my "built for comfort not speed" main browser :-) |

All of the extensions/add-ons that I need work fine. But, you are correct, there is no NoScript.

The LastPass extension is ok, but I often just get a white screen when opening the pop-out. Also it seems to get confused ... e.g. if I open a page that's already saved in LP with Firefox, in Maxthon it will often keep asking me to save it again.
The Pocket extension is also ok, but it only lets you add pages. You can't do anything else with it without opening the Pocket website. For bookmarks Maxthon sync is fine of course, if it's the only browser you use. If you want to have a bookmarks base that's browser-independent then Xmarks is the only way to go imo. Plus it does a whole lot more such as profiles, duplicate finding, tabs and history syncing, site info and so on. There's a new problem as well now, since Mx has introduced extension auto-updating. For some reason it means that some extensions don't sync properly... for instance after upgrading to .4000 several of my installed extensions disappeared and had to be re-installed. Finally Mx is still having problems with many websites. For myself, Total War Centre just won't open, and if you look on the forums you'll see that other people are hving problems with a lot of other sites. I do like the browser very much, but as it is so far it's not stable or well-featured enough to make me quit FF. |

... has been released (a few days ago actually but I've not been on the site for a while).
The release is 4.2.0.800 beta Preview, with the Blink core, and it does indeed seem to be noticeably faster on first impression. Maxthon 4.2.0.800 Beta Also posted is an announcement about the development of Maxthon for Linux, though no time scale. Maxthon for Linux |

Been using it, the preview version, since they released it. It works well, definitely quick, and I've had no issues with it at all - although taking a brief look at their forum I see one or two users reporting a few glitches. Nothing changed, appearance wise, no features lost.
I like Maxthon, it's a good browser. Just a shame the extensions are a bit limited compared to other browsers, which may deter some from using it. But to be fair, for me, that's not a problem. WOT would be nice but there are still ways to work around that with various search engines, and the built in ad-blocker works well enough for me. |

V4.2.0.3000 Final is released. First official version with Blink core.
http://forum.maxthon.com/thread-6783-1-1.html Very good browser, very quick. No change to the GUI, all the built in Maxthon features are still there. If you'd rather, you can can download it from FileHippo; http://www.filehippo.com/download_maxthon/ Been using the Beta's with no issues, but this final release is very snappy indeed. Great job. Shows what can be done with Blink - not everything has to be the same. |
