It would be nice if there was something to speedup of lessen the amount of time taken for Windows startup. I know that pruning the startup of non-essential things is important, and I have done that, but still am looking to shave some time off of startup. I have looked into Startup Delayer and Soluto. Anything else to try?

Of course if most of the time you are only turning on you computer to use the internet, check email, or chat online, you could use one of several near instant boot distros of Linux. I have used several that boot between five to ten seconds.

True. Both startup and shutdown are much faster in Linux than Windows. In particular, I used to say that "before you have a chance to stand up and walk away, Ubuntu has already powered off your PC after you press the shutdown button."
