Is there such a thing as a volume 'mixer' for different apps?

I often have music and alarms and alerts all going at once.

Is there a program that can adjust the volumes for each individual application - like a mixer for different applications??

for XP

Thank you for any help.

It should be built into the system, if I remember correctly. I'm on Windows 7 and there definitely is a volume mixer, and I'm pretty sure there was one in XP as well (possibly even back in 98). Look around in the control panel, I think you should be able to find something there.

trainman261 is correct that Windows XP has a default volume mixer that allows the volume to be adjusted for each application. But it is possible that the default install has been changed for some reason so you might have to reinstall the mixer program:

Right click sound icon in tray and there you have a volume mixer, however, there are some freeware alternatives to accomplish the same goal it's just that you can nail it without it and most of time tend to add a step further to achieve the same goal. Write if you need a recommendation to such apps anyway
