Default searches within all PDF files in a folder

I'm looking for freeware that I can use to search the contents of PDF (and perhaps also PostScript and Word) files in a folder. Does anyone know of such software?

You can look at these on the main site:

Some good suggestions are there in comments.

I tried both AstroGrep and Windows Grep but both failed to find the word in the pdf file.

AstroGrep did find the same word in the text file, which was converted from the pdf file in the same folder. Not sure about others.

Further checking of the features of AstroGrep, which says "search pdf documents (researching)" is "Possible upcoming features."

Hi guys, any idea?

I abandoned Windows Grep, I don't like the interface. Both AstroGrep and dnGREP do find text in PDF files, but not very consistently. I would also like to know if there is something better out there.

Google Desktop Search would work, right? I just don't want to install that. I would prefer something more along the lines of the GREP software.

My other problem is that many of the articles I have saved are scans of documents. No search program is going to help me there

I should have used something like Zotero to keep my stuff organised from the start.

I haven't used it myself, but I believe Evernote has the ability to recognize text in images and enables it to be searchable?
