Default Free Malware Protection Program

I have a 64-bit Windows 8 machine, and I've tried to install ThreatFire and Malware Defender, but they won't run. Malware Defender cannot download its driver, for some reason.

Anything that will work on my machine? Thanks!

Always check the system requirements before downloading software. In both these cases Windows 8 is not listed therefore not supported. See here for plenty of other options.

I'm not looking for an anti-virus, so this is useless.

I was looking for real-time malware protection, as I stated. I found WinPatrol works well on my machine.

Sorry but if you aren't clear about what you want then we have no choice but to guess. For example, I don't see where you "stated" you are looking for malware protection. I do see where you said you "...tried to install ThreatFire and Malware Defender, but they won't run." As far as I am concerned, that is not a stating that you are looking for malware protection, and real-time at that.

Anti-virus software has expanded in scope to be much more than pure anti-virus. If someone says anti-malware then I recommend "anti-virus" first.
