Default Backup Prog that handles "path is too long"

Hi

I was testing AOMEI Backupper 3.2 to see if it could create backups (both File Backup & File Sync, not the cloning of whole partition or drive) and handle the problem caused by long path/filenames. Sadly it cannot. It quits the backup and informs me that the destination path is too long.

In the past I've used TeraCopy to bypass the problem but I'd like to find a dedicated backup program that can do it, preferably one that does not use a proprietary file format but rather it just copies the files/folder with the same path structures.

So, I need:

1) Non proprietary file format.

2) Handle long path/filenames.

3) Verify backup integrity on completion via checksum.

4) At least differential backup but preferably also incremental.

5) Scheduling is also desirable.

Does anyone know if Macrium/Easus/Paragon or some other reliable File & Folder backup program can handle the problem and has the features I desire.

Thanks.

PS. Using Windows 8.0 and Classic Start Menu.

I think that you've precluded most of the conventional backup programs by specifying copying of the folder hierarchy and non-proprietary file format.

It sounds like you need a syncing solution with the ability to backup partitions and complete drives. But I think that you are already familiar with at least some syncing software because we had a kind-of-similar discussion a couple of years ago.

Perhaps Clonezilla or another open source product might be what you want:

I agree with Remah. Once you want the backup to maintain the same hierarchy as the original and be in non-propriety format you are looking at file-based backup. For file & folder backup and sync I use Toucan. PortableApps has noted that the program is in "development haitus" but, as far as I could tell, it does not affect the functioning of the program. You may want to check it out and see if it meets your needs.

Another program is Zback. I've never used Zback but it looks very similar to Toucan.

Both Toucan and Zback are fully portable. You could drop the program anywhere, try it, and if you don't like it just delete the main program folder and it's gone.

Thanks for your suggestions. I'll take a look at Zback and Toucan etc., and get back here if I find they meet my needs.

Thanks.
